If you pass by the Cornish village of St. Tudy on a bright sunny day or even on a grey, misty morning, you’ll hear the delighted sound of children having fun at their stunning, new play park on the St. Tudy Playing Fields. The village’s former rundown play area is now a distant memory, as in its place stands a modern, vibrant, inviting, play space that is already helping children to enjoy being active whilst they create new, happy memories and friendships to last a lifetime. Here at Schoolscapes we are very proud to have designed, supplied and installed such a special, top quality play park, creating a lasting legacy for the whole community and for lucky visitors to enjoy.
The Schoolscapes team worked closely with the determined St. Tudy Playing Field Trust and their dedicated Playground Team as it was vital to create a play space that the whole community would love and all be able to easily access and enjoy. The playground was being reopened in memory of their much-loved pre-school Manager (and committed member of the Playground Team), who had recently passed away, so it was vital for Schoolscapes to create a play space that would provide a worthy and lasting tribute for Claire Townsend and her family. Our thoughtful design provided climbing, sliding and other active challenges for a wide range of ages, as one of the Trust’s requirements was that the new park also provided a special place for children from the local pre-school and primary school to have fun and to explore.
The St. Tudy Community’s dreams were made a reality by a number of contributors supporting their playground fund; these included donations from local businesses, community fundraising events and various charitable grants. The playground fund was also considerably boosted by a contribution of £25,000 from the financial services company OneFamily as part of its Foundation. The village held a well-attended grand opening, where local people, including the family of Claire Townsend, were there to celebrate the start of a new play experience that would last into the future, ensuring that the local and visiting children would have an excellent play facility for generations to come.
We were pleased to install a vibrant, yellow and blue Spring Surfer, through the generous donation from Brays, a local business through The Bray Charitable Fund. David Bray said,
“We are delighted to support the quest to build a new playground at St. Tudy. We love the ambition and scale of this team striving to provide a fantastic resource for the whole community. Children’s play and exercise is so important and just getting everyone in the fresh air is brilliant.”
The Spring Surfer compliments the Cradle Seat Swings, Eagle’s Nest Swing, Inclusive flush-to-ground Roundabout, a Dino Mound and Tunnel and its Treetops Adventure Play Tower. The Twizzle Stick and the Seesaw were also refurbished, so the newly designed park now provides a wide range of challenge and a large variety of activities for both visitors and local residents to enjoy in safety.
Karen Walley, Vice Chair of St. Tudy Playing Fields Trust said,
“Thank you so much for this Spring Surfer that adds a sense of fun to any play area offering both active and imaginary play opportunities for a range of ages and is a great addition to our area.”
All the new play equipment has been carefully installed in Resin Bound Play Bark that provides a safe and easily maintained play surface in complementary natural colours.
We are delighted to have been part of a such a worthy cause and happy that we have been able to help. The community is so pleased with their new park and is now busy playing, laughing and exploring in celebration of the life of a well-loved local lady.
This wonderful, vibrant play space also provides real, solid evidence, demonstrating what a hard-working, dedicated team can achieve for their community. Schoolscapes also offers advice on grants and funding which can make playground dreams become reality. We are particularly pleased that more and more communities are now able to fund such fantastic play spaces for the benefit of their future generations and we are very proud of this successful project bringing joy to all in St. Tudy.
“Everyone is delighted and the playground is installed and being used regularly by children of all ages and abilities. We are so delighted that we have returned to Schoolscapes to Phase 2 that will be installed shortly. Highly recommended.”
