Regency High School

Regency High School

Regency High School is a special school providing education for students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities. The school is a specialist college for sport and citizenship and is in receipt of the Green Flag Eco-Award.

The project, which has been designed by the students and staff of Regency, a specialist Sport College, is a £75,000 state-of-the-art development that supports not only the students of Regency but also a wider community use by organisations such as Malvern Special Families.

The project was kick-started by sponsorship received from the Wooden Spoon, which financed the installation of an adapted wheelchair swing and fully inclusive roundabout for use by pupils with a range of special needs. The first phase of this project was officially opened by the Princess Royal on 16th July 2010, the same day that Cecil Duckworth O.B.E. from Worcester warriors R.F.C. formally opened Regency High School.

The Adventure Play Area – which incorporates a fitness trail, scramble nets, vertical rock wall climber, play tower, inclusive swings, zip wire, gazebos and an amphitheatre for outdoor performances – is a dream come true for Regency’s students.

Headteacher, Frank Steel, said: “Our students now have the chance to enjoy all the challenges and opportunities offered by this superb outdoor learning and play environment, and they’re over the moon. It’s been a huge success and offers something for everyone – it’s fully inclusive, which is exactly what we wanted to achieve.”

The facility was manufactured and installed by Schoolscapes Ltd., which beat off stiff competition in the tendering process to win the contract for this prestigious development.

The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Playground has been named ‘The Kevin Beck Adventure Playground’ in honour of the Site Manager at Regency High who has worked at the school for over 7 years and without his dedication and attention many of the facilities at the school including the Adventure Playground would never have come to fruition.
