Tor Bridge High Primary School
When the School was built in 2012 the outside area was left very dull and bare. They required a designated Sports area, Activity and Adventure Play, space for Outdoor Performance and Education. Schoolscapes have worked closely with the school on a long term development plan for the outdoors space. This allowed us to design the project incorporating the ideas of the Schools Council, along with the finances available at different points of the cycle. The most recent phase of the project was specifically aimed at providing an Adventure Play space. This was achieved by incorporating an adventurous physical challenge, den building, imaginative play, a bike and tricycle track, storytelling, outdoor theatre and teaching areas.
The outside space now offers multiple opportunities for physical development, learning outside the classroom and play. It has enabled the School to utilise the natural landscape and develop new ways of encouraging children to participate in physical exercise and social interaction. "It was really obvious to see them testing themselves on which pieces they were able to navigate, adapt their movements and assess risks for themselves. The progression for physical development was clear to see, and the school are excited by the opportunities for outdoor learning that the entire space offers.’’ C. Tompkins (Headteacher)
